Oklahoma Media Law attorney Jon Epstein talks with Bloomberg Law's June Grasso at the 16 minute mark regarding reporter Catherine Herridge who is facing contempt charges for refusing to reveal confidential sources.

In August 2023, Judge Christopher Cooper, of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, issued a ruling to compel current CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge to participate in a deposition regarding the identity of confidential sources she used for stories she published in 2017 while she worked at Fox News. Judge Cooper’s Order was issued in a lawsuit filed by scientist Yanping Chen against the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Herridge reported in 2017 (citing documents she reviewed) that Chen was the subject of a federal probe. Chen has alleged that federal authorities improperly leaked information about her in violation of the Privacy Act.  Herridge attended the deposition; however, she declined to reveal her source(s).
