Corporate officers and directors, human resources professionals, and employment law attorneys who may not have required a working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in the past will need to master those requirements going forward pursuant to recent action by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Labor (DOL).  

A new joint initiative between the DOJ and DOL, announced on December 17, 2015, will focus on investigating and prosecuting "worker endangerment violations." A memo from Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates to all 93 U.S. Attorneys, urges federal prosecutors "to work with the Environmental Crimes Section in pursuing worker endangerment violations." Notably, the memo indicates there will be a "renewed commitment by both the Department of Labor and the Department of Justice to utilize criminal prosecution as an enforcement tool." READ MORE HERE
