Michael "Mickey" S. Young, MD

Dr. Young is a registered U.S. patent attorney practicing in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

Michael Young MD, JD, MSBME practices in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. Dr. Young, a registered patent attorney, deals with a variety of technologies, including medical devices, biotechnology, electrical processes and systems, computer hardware and software, chemicals and related processes, and mechanical devices. His wide-ranging career has made him “multilingual” in that he is fluent in the technical languages spoken by engineers, biotechnologists, physicians, entrepreneurs, and business developers. It should be noted that Dr. Young has worked at more than 25 hospitals and medical centers throughout the country in his career, which has provided him with a truly comprehensive experience of how things happen in the healthcare industry. 

Dr. Young is a peer-review published neurophysiologist by training. He has been involved in both basic science and clinical research, such as vivo extracellular neuronal recording on eye movement in awake monkeys, including surgical preparation of animal subjects; transcranial magnetic stimulation on patients with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease); clinical electromyography (EMG) on patients with neuromuscular diseases of various types, among others. Dr. Young’s clinical and research interests have included EMG; neurorehabilitation, including stroke; motor control; Alzheimer’s disease; Parkinson’s disease; multiple sclerosis; and migraine.

Dr. Young earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from Boston University’s top ranked Biomedical Engineering program. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1991 receiving honors in neurology, and completed internship, neurology residency and fellowships that included being a teaching fellow and researcher at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Young passed the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification exam in 1997. He has been on faculty at OU College of Medicine and successful businessman in a highly successful independent neurology practice in Missoula, MT.

After a few years in practice, Dr. Young decided to take his career in a different direction and graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 2009 with one year as a visiting student at the University of Oklahoma School of Law. In Law school, Dr. Young found his multilingual and varied professional experience put to the test in a NSF funded Bioscience Entrepreneur program that brought together business students, science students, and law students. In his group, Dr. Young was the scientist and the law student, while engaging the business students.

He was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar and became a United States Registered Patent Attorney in 2009. Dr. Young has had medical research and legal articles published.
