John T. Richer

John T. Richer Attorney at Law

Mr. Richer began his career with Hall Estill and has developed a dynamic and diverse practice representing clients in bankruptcy, general and commercial litigation matters throughout Oklahoma and the United States. Mr. Richer’s bankruptcy practice includes representation of creditors and equity security holders in all facets of chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy. This includes extensive experience representing creditors in prosecution or defense of preferential and fraudulent transfer lawsuits.  Hall Estill’s bankruptcy group has considerable expertise in this area having achieved countless favorable settlements and outcomes in bankruptcy courts throughout the United States.

Aside from bankruptcy, Mr. Richer has developed a successful litigation practice representing individuals, small businesses and corporations in numerous types of business disputes and industries. Mr. Richer’s general philosophy is to work with clients to develop a strategy tailored towards specific needs, cost-effective outcomes and desired results without resort to litigation, either through informal dispute resolution or mediation. However, where litigation is required Mr. Richer and the litigators at Hall Estill have the skills, resources and experience needed to aggressively pursue their clients’ interests in obtaining successful court judgments and jury verdicts. Mr. Richer’s experience in this area includes tort, breach of contract, landlord/tenant, water rights, lender liability, collection and lien enforcement matters. Mr. Richer has a formidable background assisting secured creditors with issues arising under Oklahoma’s mortgage foreclosure law, the Uniform Commercial Code, Oklahoma’s hospital and physician’s lien statutes and its storage, mechanic’s and materialman’s lien statutes.

Mr. Richer also has a significant practice representing several Oklahoma homeowner’s associations in all areas, including collection, lien enforcement and review and enforcement of restrictive covenants. Finally, Mr. Richer has developed an appellate practice involving all areas of the law, having successfully prosecuted and defended appeals on behalf of Hall Estill clients in both federal and state courts at the highest level resulting in several published opinions.

While in law school, Mr. Richer was a member of the Kansas Law Review and participated in the school’s regional and national moot court teams. Prior to joining Hall Estill, Mr. Richer clerked for the Honorable James A. Pusateri, Chief Judge, United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas.

Mr. Richer is a frequent speaker regarding bankruptcy and collection issues and devotes a fair amount of his time to assisting individual chapter 7 debtors on a pro bono basis. In his free time, Mr. Richer is actively involved with his church serving as small group leader and serves on several not-for-profit boards, including the Community Service Council of Tulsa.
