Nathaniel T. Haskins Shareholder
Nathaniel Haskins began his career with Hall Estill and is a member of the firm's Recruitment & Diversity and Technology Committees. He works primarily in the areas of Labor & Employment, Corporate, Property Tax, Family, and general litigation, and has been named by Oklahoma Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Employment & Labor law.
Nathaniel's employment law experience is partially comprised of drafting employment policies, including handbooks and drug testing policies. He also regularly counsels employers on a variety of employment related issues and represents employers in a wide range of employment related disputes, including all stages of the employment litigation process. Additionally, Nathaniel is experienced in administrative proceedings, including proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
In addition to Nathaniel's wide-ranging employment law experience, he has performed extensive work in other practice areas. He litigates corporate and business matters related to contract and warranty disputes, bad faith claims, property foreclosures, and ad valorem disputes. Nathaniel also handles various domestic legal issues including, but not limited to, divorce, adoption, and estate planning. While his practice focuses primarily on the areas enumerated herein, Nathaniel also maintains a general litigation practice, assisting clients in a variety of other types of legal disputes.
Prior to attending law school, Nathaniel worked as a senior tax consultant for Dallas-based Ryan (formerly Ryan & Company). Among other things, he assisted his clients in the following: filing property tax returns, applying for various property tax exemptions, preparing property valuations, handling and negotiating property tax appeals, and obtaining property tax and sales and use tax refunds. In addition to the experience and training Nathaniel received at Ryan, he also received training from the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, Texas Association of Property Tax Professionals, the Appraisal Institute, and the Appraisal for Ad Valorem Taxation of Communications, Energy, and Transportation Properties. In 2006, Mr. Haskins left this career to attend law school at the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
While in law school, he served as Articles Development Editor for the American Indian Law Review. He authored "Framing Concurrent Jurisdiction Issues in the Self-Determination Era: Accepting the First Circuit’s Analysis but Rejecting its Application to Preserve Tribal Sovereignty," 32 Am. Indian L. Rev. 441 (Spring 2008). He also earned American Jurisprudence Awards in Civil Procedure II, Research & Writing, and Professional Responsibility.
Currently, in addition to practicing and studying law, Nathaniel also speaks on employment issues at Hall Estill client engagements, for client events and trainings, and for third party associations, such as the Oklahoma County Bar Association. He is also passionate about raising awareness of and fighting against human trafficking, and is involved with various endeavors regarding same.
Nathaniel is married to Brandi Haskins. They have one daughter, live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and attend Our Lord's Community Church.
